I’ve learned a new term over the last couple of days. The term is pre-selling.
Up until recently, I was having a hard time wrapping my mind around how affiliate marketing worked. How can I sell something that I haven’t used? It seemed disingeuos at best, and deceiptful at worst. Enter the concept of pre-selling.

Turns out, I don’t have to sell people on the product that I’m promoting, nor do I have to lie and claim that I’m using something when I’m not really using it. After all, one of the premises of bum marketing is that you spend as little money as possible while effectively promoting as many products as possible.
In a nutshell, pre selling, is simply this: You write an article on acne, for example, and how to get rid of it. You take the time to research some things here and there and put them altogether in an article. At the end of the article, you put a teaser. Something like “did you know that 90% of acne is caused by one of 3 things, click here to find out more!” or something like that. The “click here” leads the reader to a clickbank product that deals with acne. That’s all there is to it.
In conjunction with pre-selling, I learned a little formula that showed me that I was approaching my article marketing wrong. The formula is:
C T P M
Content
Traffic
Presell
Monetize
It’s as simple as that.
Forget about trying to sell someone from your page. That’s the job of the sales letter that the publisher has split tested and done all the work for. Your job as an affiliate, is to guide qualified, ie interested people to the sales page and let the sales letter on the sales page do its job.
I knew that I had to start at content, but I always tried to focus on monetization first. Alas, now that I’m better focused, my content creation, traffic, preselling and monetization should start to grow even more than they have over this past weekend.
It’s weird, but I feel like I’m on the cusp of something big. Something really big that will help me provide for my family in ways that I never could before. Have I mentioned that I’ve made a few sales this past week? I should be getting a decent check from clickbank sometime this week. Yeehaw!
