Discover your passion

17 December 2009 No Comment

We’ve always been fascinated with people that are passionate about what they do. There’s just something infectious about their passion that just makes watching them do their work, or experiencing the fruits of their labor very enjoyable.

For instance, over on the BBC, they have this story about a director from Montevideo, Uruguay named Fede Alvarez . Fede got a $30 million deal to make a Hollywood movie but that’s not the interesting part of the story.

What’s interesting about this story, is that Fede got that job because he released a little video on Youtube titled “Ataque de Panico” aka “Panic Attack.” He spent about $300 to make the Youtube video and ended up getting a multimillion dollar deal from his work.

Here’s the video that he made:

The Youtube video is pretty good, but it’s not perfect. I won’t sit here and nitpick, but I will say that Fede was definitely invested in, and passionate about the end result.

The beauty of the video is that Fede made it, released it, and got himself a significant Hollywood gig. He followed his passion and made things happen. Using online video, he was able to connect with the people in his intended audience and got a big time movie contract.

On a side note: Don’t ever let anyone tell you that making a youtube video never got anyone anywhere and that video marketing on youtube doesn’t work.

Other passionate people

One of our clients is a non-profit named Hope & Love 4 Kids. The people involved with that organization are passionate about making sure that kids have a present come Christmas morning. It’s amazing to see all of the disjointed factions work together to make the vision and mission of the organization come to fruition.

Of course, if you’re going to talk about people that are passionate about what they do, you have to mention Gary Vaynerchuk. You will be hard pressed to find someone that is more passionate about wine and about connecting with people than Gray. What’s his preferred method to connect with his audience? Online videos with his TV show at WineLibrary.tv

I could just keep going on and on about people that are passionate about what they do and how they use online video to get their point across and connect with their audience, but I won’t.

The point of all this, is to ask yourself what’s your passion? Are you connecting with your intended audience in an effective and efficient manner? Is there anyway that you can use online video marketing to accomplish your goals? If not video, could you use a podcast to help you connect?

We’re working on putting together a free in person event in January 2010 to talk about using online video and podcasting to connect with your audience. Potential dates for the event are January 7, January 14 or January 21. Do you have a date preference? Please let us know in the comments or contact marketing latinos directly.
