Teach a man to fish

12 March 2009 No Comment

Y’all know that saying right? Give a man a fish and you’ve fed him for the day, teach that same man how to fish and you’ve fed him for a lifetime.

That’s my philosophy when it comes to all things online and social media related. I believe that too many people are beholden to other people because they have not learned “how to fish” so to speak.

I would like the opportunity to teach you how to fish, and at the same time, I think that my own skills will get better and together we can catch more fish.

OK, I’ll leave the fish metaphor alone for now.

On a different note, I’ve met a lot of new, interesting and very cool people these last couple of months or so.  I’ve started attending networking events and totally turned my business around by doing so.  I think my favorite events to date are the Austin Internet Marketers Entrepreneur Network (AIMEN) parties.  Lots of great folks there, I highly recommend you attend the next event if you’re able to.

From attending these and other events, I’ve noticed that there’s a huge difference between people that make it big and the people that don’t. It’s a very small difference, but it’s significant.

People that make it big are “do”-ers and people that don’t make it big not “do”-ers.

The folks that make it big take action, they have a goal, they are methodical and are passionate about their goals. The people that don’t make it big are mostly “thinkers” and “going to do it next week” and “I’m not so sure” kind of people.

There’s nothing wrong with either group, they’re just different.

There’s nothing wrong with making it big, and there’s nothing wrong with not making it big. You just need to decide what group you’re going to be in.

Here’s my marketing, social media, blogging, and business advice for the week.  If you want to make it big, then “do.”

Step out on the pier and start fishing.
