WordPress: 5 Reasons to Use WordPress As a CMS

28 April 2009 3 Comments

WordPress is one of the most flexible web platforms out today. WordPress “earned its chops” as a blogging platform, but in recent versions it has evolved into a platform that is capable of doing so much more.

A CMS (Content Management System) is a system that allows you to control all of the content that is on your website. Not only can you control the content on the pages, but a CMS also allows you to control the look and feel of your site. Some companies spend thousands if not millions of dollars on a CMS platform, but you don’t have to.

Here are 5 reasons why you should consider using WordPress as a CMS

  1. WordPress is easy to install. Most hosting providers give you the option of having a 1 click, or 1 button installation of WordPress. There’s no need to hire an external team of consultants and programmers to come in and setup WordPress for you. You can do it all with one mouse click.
  2. WordPress is easy to customize. Not only can you change the look and feel of WordPress, but you can also modify its functionality as well.
  3. WordPress is open source. What this means, is that WordPress is free for you to use.
  4. WordPress is infinitely expandable with themes and plugins. Themes control how WordPress looks and plugins modify its functionality. There are both paid and free options of both.
  5. Search Engine friendly WordPress is very search engine friendly. It is, by default, designed to optimize your internal link structure and make your website search engine friendly “out of the box.” You can expand on this built in capacity using search engine optimization plugins.

Bonus feature:WordPress allows you to have multiple contributors. You can designate different users within your organization as writers/ contributors, as editors and as admins. This allows you to have multiple people contribute content to the site and allows you oversight over them. This comes built in to WordPress as an “out of the box” function.
