Twitter Search on Steroids

OK, so maybe not on steroids, but definitely this is an enhanced twitter search. The other day, I explained what the twitter hash tags are and how to use them to track trending conversations on Twitter.

Of course, the downside of trending conversations, is that it’s only a matter of time until some idiot spammer gets wind of the trend and starts sending the same message over and over again. Invariably, the message will say something like:

“Get more info about my amazing online assistance, money making, shocking lead pulling, brand new whatchamacallit”

To be fair, I did exaggerate a bit, but I’m sure you’ve seen this type of tweet.

So, what can you do to sort out these type of tweets from the trending topics stream?

Enter this awesome, great, super delicious Twitter search string:

#cornypickuplines -”more info” -”online assistance” -”shocking” -”money”

If you read the syntax of the sentence, the “-” minus sign eliminates the words that immediately follow the sign.  Here’s a break down:

#cornypickuplines is the hash tag that you’re searching for, minus the tweets that have the words “more info”, “online assistance”, “shocking” and “money.”

It’s a beautiful thing.
