How To Look Like A Spammer

As a general rule, most people, spammers included, want to avoid looking like spammers. Despite that, a lot of innocent people end up looking like spammers because they do spammy things.
Here are 3 things to do if you want to avoid looking like a spammer:

Avoid keyword stuffing. What does that mean? It means avoid putting too many of your keywords in your posts. You should also avoid having your key words close together. So, pay attention to the density of your target words to the rest of your …

How To Tell If Your SEO Consultant Sucks

As a long time student of SEO, aka Search Engine Optimization, I’ve read a lot of blogs, read a lot of books, listened to various recordings, attended events etc. I have noticed that there are certain traits that all of the good and successful SEO practitioners seem to share.
By “good and successful” I mean that they pay their bills by performing SEO work full time, with legitimate clients and that you can see have a high profile within the community. Admittedly, by my own definition, I am not a …

Hispanic does not always equal Mexican

I think I may be beating a dead horse, or going overboard with this one.
I was looking at a local Hispanic Chamber of Commerce website, trying to decide if I wanted to join it and really liking what I saw. The chamber had a lot of demographic data on Hispanic owned businesses, and on the growth of the Hispanic population and their purchasing power etc.
I was really happy with what I was seeing until I got to the membership page.
Listed as a benefit for joining the local chamber is a …

Generic News Report

I found this to be really fascinating. I made it a special point to watch the news last night so I could test this out and see if it really did work like that, and it did indeed.

I originally saw this over on Chris Brogan’s blog, I totally missed what he said in his post because I was so fascinated by the generic news report. Here’s what fascinated me, what else is going on that we are not aware of?
Until I saw this video, I was not …

Exploitation or just good marketing?

The other day, Michelle and I went to have lunch to celebrate a recent business milestone. We were wanting to try out a new place, and we settled on a restaurant in San Marcos that I’d driven by, but never stopped at.
It was a Tex-Mex restaurant in with some really interesting decor:
I really liked this fountain

I also liked this little “Juan Valdez” looking dude

The inside of the place was really neat also

I specially liked the painted stairs leading up to the balcony:

Anyway, we’re seated and get our menu, and all …

Are you a caterpillar or a butterfly?

Copy blogger recently reminded of this quote from Buckminster Fuller:
“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly” — Buckminster Fuller
I love that quote, specially as it applies to a budding business.
Think about it, most businesses, start off as hairy, ugly, caterpillars. Eventually, the caterpillar reaches a point where it can no longer sustain itself in it’s current form. It has to change in order to continue living.
When it reaches that point, the caterpillar creates a cocoon, and comes out from it transformed into …

Marketing Companies Attacking Spanish Language Market

I’m purposefully using the word “attack” and not “target.” I’ve been paying a lot more attention to how companies market, promote and sell goods to Spanish speaking markets and I’m not liking what I see.
One of the markets that I wanted to focus on with Marketing Latinos was helping companies and individuals reach Spanish speaking markets in a manner that is both respectful and profitable. Seems like no one else is really interested, if you go by the current commercials being aired on network tv.
Nothing irks me more than seeing …

How to use Facebook for Business

Today’s slideshare presenation is brought to you courtesy of Hubspot. They’re an inbound marketing firm based out of Boston, MA. I’m not selling anything from them, but I am working on my Hubspot inbound marketing certification.
Why am I working on a certification from Hubspot?
Because I like a lot of the things that they do as a company when it comes to inbound marketing.
Although I don’t entirely agree with everything that they point out in this slide presentation, I do think that there’s value in the thoughts expressed.
I …
