This week’s marketing minutes is a little bit off topic. It’s also my fist ever with a co-host, CJ Legare from Hope and Love 4 Kids joined me.

Who is Michelle Lopez?
She is the Associate Director of Student Development and Retention at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
The interview is focused on higher education and more specifically on:

How to pay for a college education
What you as a parent, or as a student interested in going to college, can …

Are you a caterpillar or a butterfly?

Copy blogger recently reminded of this quote from Buckminster Fuller:
“There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly” — Buckminster Fuller
I love that quote, specially as it applies to a budding business.
Think about it, most businesses, start off as hairy, ugly, caterpillars. Eventually, the caterpillar reaches a point where it can no longer sustain itself in it’s current form. It has to change in order to continue living.
When it reaches that point, the caterpillar creates a cocoon, and comes out from it transformed into …

Marketing Minutes Podcast 011810

Here’s this week’s marketing minute. It’s about link building and link building programs. Here are 2 software programs that I recommend if you’re planning on using software for link building:
a.) 3 Way Links: This is a membership site. It works on the premise that it finds 3 sites to exchange links in such a fashion that no 2 sites point back to each other. You do need to know a little bit about your website’s architecture in order to join it, but it’s pretty straight forward.
b.) 30 minute backlinks: What …

Marketing Minutes January 11, 2010

Today’s marketing minute is not a podcast, but it was recorded at Podcamp in Pittsburgh late last year. This footage was provided by the organizers and I’m making it available here for your viewing pleasure.
The presentation is titled: How to put up a WordPress Blog in 10 minutes or less.

I’m not happy about how I look in the video, but it is what it is.

How to use Facebook for Business

Today’s slideshare presenation is brought to you courtesy of Hubspot. They’re an inbound marketing firm based out of Boston, MA. I’m not selling anything from them, but I am working on my Hubspot inbound marketing certification.
Why am I working on a certification from Hubspot?
Because I like a lot of the things that they do as a company when it comes to inbound marketing.
Although I don’t entirely agree with everything that they point out in this slide presentation, I do think that there’s value in the thoughts expressed.
I …

Local Retail, As We Knew It, Is Dead

In this marketing minute video, I examine the question of how a local retailer can compete with an online retailer. It’s a very simple thing, but it can potentially help a local retailer book additional sales.’
