I can’t believe that in all the excitement I forgot to post my slides to my own blog. Having said that, here are my slides from my presentation in Pittsburgh. I’m actually working on a book from the presentation so maybe that’s what happened and why it skipped my mind to post my slides here.

One of the best features of the Wordpress application is that it is almost infinitely expandable. There exist a lot of different plugins and themes, both free and paid, that have been developed by the user community. These plugins and themes combine to allow the application to be almost infinitely expandable and customizable.
After you install the application, the basic structure and functionality of it is fairly limited. Out of the box, with the basic settings you can:

If you’re new to the social media scene, then you know that there are some terms that are thrown around by everyone as if everyone knows what those terms mean. Here’s a short list of terms and their definitions, mostly separated by the platform:
Myspace
Myspace was the original big social network, and a lot of the items on facebook got started on Myspace. I know friendster and others were first, but seriously Myspace was the first “BIG” social network. Having said that:

I’ve never been one to give much thought to the significance of knowing internet lingo. To me, it’s second nature. I just know what T1, DHCP, TCP/IP and Domain name are. I very quickly picked up on the meaning of other terms like “retweet,” “pinged” and “facebooked” among others. I know these terms because I am a part of the internet social media tribe. Since I know the lingo, other members of the tribe recognize me as a member.
Simply put, knowing the lingo means …

One of the neatest things about Twitter is that it is easy to automate many functions. One of the most misunderstood and misused functions on Twitter is the direct message. There are third party services that let you automatically message people that sign up to follow you on Twitter, I do not believe that you should auto direct message people when they follow you.
Let me say, that I used to auto-message people when they followed me back in my early days on Twitter. I thought that a quick welcome message …

In theory, the principle of optimizing your web site for the search engines is very simple. What you want to do, is to have keywords on your site, that match the keywords that people type in on the search engines. The search engines will crawl the content on your site and send you searchers that will find what you have on your site relevant to what the searchers are looking for.
It’s as simple as that, in theory. Where it gets tricky is in the execution. For …

In case you don’t know, by default twitter allows you to follow up to 2000 people before limits start to kick in. Some of the limits are based on the number of followers that you have, and other limits are based on things like API calls and whatnot that only the uber-geeks among us understand.
Most people won’t care about the 2000 people follow limit since they have no interest in following more than that number anyway. Regardless, I think that a lot of people will want to know how …

An important part of any website promotion campaign is to measure your progress. If you don’t know where you’re at, you won’t know if you’re heading in the right direction until it’s too late to change course. Here are 3 mistakes to avoid when running your campaign.
Mistake #1 Not having a goal in mind.
Like Napoleon Hill says in his book the “7 Habits of Highly Successful People” you need to begin with the end in mind. Before you start your campaign, you need to have a destination or end …
