Let me start off by saying that there are lots of things that I love about Twitter. I love the instant connectivity, how it brings news to me immediately, as the news happens. I love how I can find out about and read a lot of different articles that I would probably have missed had I not been on Twitter.
Having said that, there are some things both about Twitter and on Twitter that I find annoying. These are not show stoppers for my by any means, these things are just …

In case you’re wondering what’s going on with your Twitter follower and following counts, Twitter is doing some updates and maintenance.  According to the official Twitter Blog, they are “cleaning up artifacts in the system” and making sure that your follower and following counts are accurate. They’re also getting rid of spam accounts, so you should also see a reduction in “come see my sexy pics” invites among other things.

OK, so maybe not on steroids, but definitely this is an enhanced twitter search. The other day, I explained what the twitter hash tags are and how to use them to track trending conversations on Twitter.
Of course, the downside of trending conversations, is that it’s only a matter of time until some idiot spammer gets wind of the trend and starts sending the same message over and over again. Invariably, the message will say something like:
“Get more info about my amazing online assistance, money making, shocking lead pulling, brand …

Thanks to the wonders of Twitter, I came across this article over on ZDnet where the author talks about the top social media fails of 2009.  I don’t necessarily agree with everything that she says, but I don’t disagree with everything either.
I should mention, that the use of the word “fail” like that comes from a very successful site called “failblog.org” where they highlight things that have failed.
Here’s an example of something over on failblog.org:

Back to my point, I think that overall the Zdnet article does a …

If you’ve spent any time on twitter, you may have noticed people closing tweets with a text like this:
#3turnoffwords
or
#followfriday
or
#tcc
You may wondering, what do those mean?
Well, those are called hashtags, and essentially they are topics that people are talking about.  In the current version of twitter, the application is kind enough to show you in the sidebar what the most popular hashtags are at any given moment.
If a hashtag you’re interested in isn’t in the sidebar, no worries, you can actually perform a twitter search and find all of the …

I’ve been working a lot on my twitter presence. As such, I’ve discovered that there are some things that are more likely than other to get me to unfollow you. In talking to other tweeple (people on twitter) I discovered that a lot of us share these same guidelines.
Without further ado, here are my 5 things:
1. Marketing bot.
If all you do, is twitter about your program, your ebook, your this, your that, your the other and how I can buy your stuff using a special coupon or whatever, you’ll …

If you’re new to the social media scene, then you know that there are some terms that are thrown around by everyone as if everyone knows what those terms mean. Here’s a short list of terms and their definitions, mostly separated by the platform:
Myspace
Myspace was the original big social network, and a lot of the items on facebook got started on Myspace. I know friendster and others were first, but seriously Myspace was the first “BIG” social network. Having said that:

BulletinsThese are messages that you send out to all …

One of the neatest things about Twitter is that it is easy to automate many functions. One of the most misunderstood and misused functions on Twitter is the direct message.  There are third party services that let you automatically message people that sign up to follow you on Twitter, I do not believe that you should auto direct message people when they follow you.
Let me say, that I used to auto-message people when they followed me back in my early days on Twitter. I thought that a quick welcome message …

In case you don’t know, by default twitter allows you to follow up to 2000 people before limits start to kick in. Some of the limits are based on the number of followers that you have, and other limits are based on things like API calls and whatnot that only the uber-geeks among us understand.
Most people won’t care about the 2000 people follow limit since they have no interest in following more than that number anyway. Regardless, I think that a lot of people will want to know how …
